Love Your Porch

This is the perfect time of the year in North Bend to enjoy your porch.  Often people forget to extend their living area to the outside.  In today’s marketplace so many stores have made it possible to buy some key accessorizes and furnishings for your outdoor living spaces.  What kind of furniture is practical in an area such as ours that has so much overcast, strong winds and rain at other times of the year?  In a covered porch, you need comfortable sectional seating (that can be braced together) with removable tie down cushions and colorful bright throw pillows.   Without saying, a heavy mental coffee table or outdoor ottoman is necessary to put down your happy hour drink as well as rest up your feet.  An outdoor area rug is optional but often helps finish off the space, easy to clean and makes the porch cozy.   Adding at least two to three large flowerpots with a nice arrangement in each really helps finish the space.  In the evenings a simple rope light string(s) gives your porch a warm glow while you relax.

Not everyone’s porch is configured the same so buy to fit and be intentional with your outdoor space, the same applies to your patio spaces.  Our valley is stunningly beautiful, and everyone needs to take the time to sit outside and enjoy their outdoors.  “Porches that are furnished create community”.  They allow neighbors to engage with each other as they walk by.   I can’t tell you how often neighbors have struck up conversations as they walk by my front porch with their children or walking the dogs because I was sitting outside.

If cost is a factor in your choice of furnishings, buy some key pieces that are on sale now and then wait for the end of the season clearance sales to buy the remainder.  Locally in North Bend, your ACE Hardware store has some great sales throughout the summer which makes it a perfect time to use your ACE Rewards cards.  Our local Bartell, QFC and Safeway to name a few also carry some great deals in outdoor furnishings and decor.  Try and buy local first, give back to our local businesses in the valley.  Of course, shop around, there so many other possibilities at other stores that have frequent sales in our neighboring cities of Snoqualmie and Issaquah.
