Prioritizing What is Important to You?

How many of you understand what it means to prioritize?

Most people are overwhelmed with their lives, their possessions and just do not take the time to review what is important.  Asking oneself, “Am I being defined by everything around me , does all this stuff really make an impact in my day, or does all this paralyze my life?”

I can tell you that over time in my life and career as a designer I have seen so many people defined by what they own and how much stuff they have collected in their homes.   Things take a hold of you and it is really sad.  It is a delight when I come across a minimalist, they seem to know what bears importance in their lives and tend to do more traveling and projects away from their homes.

My message today is take a tour of your life and your personal belonging as if you were an outsider.   What do you really see?  Verbalize it, write it down, and ask yourself   “Are you happy?”

  1. I found this to be true when downsizing for my recent move from a large home to a smaller home. As I was going through all of my belongings in order to pack, I realized that I hung on to many items from the past that had no sentimental value. I decided to make some drastic changes and so I donated many items to local charities. I kept only the items that had high sentimental value or that I truly loved. Now my home feels less cluttered and the items that I kept are helping to make my house feel like home. Now the challenge is to keep purging from here on out! 😉

Note: A great way to remember items that are hard to part with is to photograph them for future reminiscing.
